A mobility equipment rental provider was preparing a locker for returning wheelchairs, walking aids and related equipment outside staffed hours.

Why the interaction mattered
A successful screen does not guarantee a successful return. The user may need to locate the correct locker, position the equipment, reach the controls, confirm the asset and retain proof. Accessibility failure at any one point can convert self service into an unplanned staff intervention.

Why independent research adds value
Users may accept staff help politely and still leave without an independently usable return path. A neutral researcher can separate chosen assistance from assistance caused by the design and can gather candid feedback without affecting the rental relationship.
RESEARCH METHOD
Capability and Recovery Route Test
The same return is examined across physical access, interface use, proof and human recovery. The objective is not assistance avoidance; it is appropriate control and choice.
Test environment
Testing would use an inactive locker, controlled replica or closed test period representing a Barcelona transport interchange and community mobility site. Fictitious rental records would be used. Participants would not risk losing a real deposit or rental record.
