THE BUSINESS DECISION A kiln-services provider wanted to approach ceramic-tile manufacturers with an offer combining energy assessment, operating changes and a staged improvement programme. Why Castellón mattered

The study focused on the Castellón ceramic cluster because local production concentration, energy exposure, plant configuration and access to service partners could materially shape how an investment was assessed. Interviews were available in Spanish and English. Findings remained specific to the recruited manufacturers and were not treated as a national market estimate.

Why interviews were required

Investment criteria sat across different functions and were commercially sensitive. Separate interviews allowed plant leaders to discuss shutdown risk, evidence gaps and internal approval concerns without being anchored by a group consensus or a supplier relationship.

Outreach and verification

Participants were identified through independent industrial recruiters, sector networks, targeted professional identification, relevant associations and client-approved accounts. A neutral Spanish or English invitation described a study about kiln-service investment decisions. Screening confirmed the participant's plant, recent investment involvement, functional mandate and ability to discuss one real decision context. Supplier conflicts, advisers without plant decision exposure and unverifiable profiles were excluded.

WHY THE DESIGN REMAINED QUALITATIVE The study involved a focused cluster and specialised decision makers. A larger survey would not have produced defensible market estimates, so the design concentrated on role-level commitment and evidence thresholds.
